If you have sloppy habits, you can accidentally install “spyware” of every imaginable kinds and variations.

These malicious programs are designed to search through your computer and send information to someone else. This happens if you don’t keep up with the security updates and/or click on attachments in your email or visit the wrong web sites. They may also get your personal information by setting up phishing scams that have websites that look like the real thing like PayPal. They request you to log in and confirm information, then use it against you to steal your identity and find out all your financial information.

Most people use the windows operating systems and also has a LOT of security holes. If your computer is no behind a good firewall, people can take advantage of these even without you doing anything to help them. McAfee has a good firewall which actually comes free with Comcast if you are a subscriber.

Your best actions to protect yourself against your PC from becoming a Surveillance System. 

1. Make sure you keep up with virus security updates

2. Don’t run old copies of Windows ad apply updates regularly as requested to do so..

3. Never open an email attachment of any sort unless you absolutely know it’s safe and know who it’s coming from. Just because your best friend sent you something doesn’t mean it’s safe.

4. To protect your PC from being a Surveillance system that is magnet for spying on your personal information, be sure that you use a firewall if you have cable or DSL Internet. Windows firewall isn’t good enough. Get a piece of hardware. It should be called something like “broadband firewall router”. Best Buy and Comp USA has many such devices.

5. Buy and keep up with the subscription to a good anti-virus product. Symantec and McAfee both have good products for removing spying applications that infect your computer.

Don’t worry about your government, they are already spying on you and already know everything they care to know. But it’s still to your advantage to protect yourself against Internet predators out to find out everything about you and rob you blind.
